Congratulations are in order…..Season-end wrap-up!

 

May news:  The boys were certainly successful at the J.O. Nationals in Michigan.  Despite injury, Josh (a first year Level 10) still competed and made it to finals!!  The Level 9s, Danny, Jon, and Devin, also all made it from the prelims to finals on at least one event (out of a starting field of around 300 qualifiers! Special kudos to Devin for placing 6th on vault in his first year at Nationals and to Jon for his 7th place on parallel bars and especially for qualifying to the Level 9 Jr. National Team with an impressive 11th all-around!!  This entitles him to two weeks of training at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado (one in July and one in October.) Way to go boys!

 

The 9/10 girls also did very well at their national meets.  Abby scored over 9.0 on all events at Easterns in Ohio for a 12th place finish in her first year as a Level 9.  Kathy had awesome scores on vault (9.35) and floor (9.35) at J.O Nationals in Florida in her first Level 10 season, and Karen placed at the Level 10 Nationals: 6th on floor (9.6) and 10th on vault (9.4), scoring a high 37.2 all-around in a very competitive meet !! All in all a great season for all three! 

 

In the last two state meets to be held, Level 7 Tasha scored 35.15 all-around and had two 9.0s, placing 6th on floor with 9.35, while nine year old Madison scored a 9.0 on bars and 34.550 all-around in her first Level 5 season!

The Level 4 team completed their season at the State Championships 4/27.  High Scoring event and all-arounds for the Child Level 4 gymnasts: Natalie Horowitz, 9.15 vault, 35.45; Kaitlyn Ravizza, 9.25 beam, 34.95; Level 4 Jr: Audra Murphy, 9.3 vault, 35.35; Alexis Bergamini, 9.35 vault, 34.90; Danielle Capuano, 9.3 vault, 34.65; Abby McLean, 9.2 vault, 34.05; Alyssa Bergamini, 9.0 vault, 33.50; Level 4 senior, Stephanie Nai, 9.3 vault, 35.3 all-around. Congratulations girls on a fun & successful season—for some it was their very first ever!!

 

The Level 6 team completed their season strong at States on 4/13: (10 yr) Jr. A Sarah Hogan had a 34.3 all-around and event high 8.95 on beam; Jr. B Paige Alves scored 8.95 on floor; Jr. C Alison Renaud had an 8.85 on vault and floor, 34.1 all-around; 11 yr. Jr. B Gabby McGuire posted a high 9.3 on vault!  Great job girls in a very competitive level. You should be very proud of your season!!

 

Good Luck to Madison Perry (Level 5) and Tasha Sankalia (Level 7) at their upcoming state meet!!

The Men's USA Gymnastics MA State Championship was held March 29-30 at Springfield College. Daggett's Level 9 Team placed first in the state. Individually, Jonathan Deaton, age 13, Longmeadow, is the 2008 Level 9 MA State All-Around Champion and won pommel, parallel bars and high bar also. He medalled 2nd on floor and 3rd for rings. Danny DiBenedetto, Vernon, CT, won vault, 2nd all-around and high bar, 3rd parallel bars. Devin Clarke, East Hartford, CT, 3rd vault. Josh Ungar, age 14 from Longmeadow, is the 2008 Level 10 (14-15) State All-Around Champion. He also won rings, vault, and high bar; 2nd on floor and parallel bars.  For Level 6: Peter Daggett, East Long., is the (10-11) 2008 Level 6 All-Around State Champion and won high bar also with a 9.95 (scoring a perfect 10.0 previously at the State Cup meet!); 2nd floor,vault, parallel bars, 3rd rings.  Kameron Tang, Agawam, 3rd vault. Morgan Leonard, Level 8, 3rd rings (15-18 group). Teaanou Gonzalez, Springfield, placed 3rd on vault in the Level 5 (7-9 age group.)  All the boys mentioned, along with Level 6, Ben Provost, age 9 from South Hadley, and Level 5 gymnasts: Nathan Florence, Wilbraham, Evan Alves, Enfield, CT, Anthony Belyy, Long., Brandon Klein, Windsor, CT, and Jeremy Slinsky, Feeding Hills, all qualified to the 2008 USAG Region 6 Men's Gymnastics Championships in Wilmington, MA April 12-13. The 9/10 gymnasts have the opportunity to advance to the 2008 Junior Olympic National Championship May 7-11 in Battle Creek, MI. Congratulations to ALL state qualifiers and Good Luck to those qualified for regionals!

 

The 9/10 Women's USA Gymnastics MA State Championship was held April 5 in Worcester. Out of the 3,000 registered gymnasts in the state only 5% qualified to this highest level of competition. Abby Griswold, age 13, from Monson, is the 2008 Level 9 Jr. State All-Around Champion. She also won all four events in her age group (vault, uneven bars, beam, and floor exercise) and had the second highest all-around score (37.2) overall of the 83 Level 9 competitors of all ages. Only 32 Level 10 gymnasts of all ages qualified to States. Kathy Tang, age 14 from Agawam, is the 2008 Level 10 State Vault Champion with the highest overall score of 9.7. She also placed 2nd on beam, and 3rd on floor in the youngest age group (that only qualified 4 in the state). Her sister, Karen Tang, also won vault in her 15-16 division with the second highest overall score of 9.675. She placed 2nd on beam and 4th all-around. The three gymnasts all qualified to the Level 9/10 Women's Regional Championships in Syracuse, NY April 25-27 where they'll compete against the best gymnasts in New England and New York with the potential of advancing to the Level 9 Easterns in Dayton, Ohio, May 9-11 and the Level 10 J.O. Nationals in Kissimmee, FL, May 16-18. 

 

The Level 9 & 10 girls were definitely the brightest “stars” of the Starlight Invitational, March 7th in Cambridge at M.I.T., posting the highest all-around scores for both levels in all age groups!  Karen Tang won the Level 10 meet overall with the highest all-around— 38.40!! She also won bars, beam, and floor for all ages outscoring 26 gymnasts!!  Abby Griswold won the Level 9 meet overall (for both level 9 sessions) with a 37.40! She also won all events in her session, as well as bars and floor overall outscoring 70 gymnasts!  Kathy Tang placed third all-around (in the Level 10, 13-15 group) with a 35.925 (despite getting sick the day of the meet!) and placed second on vault. High event scores included Karen’s 9.75 on floor and 9.6 on beam, Abby’s 9.675 on floor and 9.4 on bars, and Kathy’s 9.425 on vault. This was very exciting since it was the last meet before States, and the girls got to show what they are capable of. Congratulations!!

 

The boys’ levels 5 & 6 had an awesome meet at the 2008 Boston Classic March 1st.  Peter Daggett repeated his near-perfect high bar routine—this time scoring an unheard of 9.9 for the win!  Peter also placed first all-around with 55.750 and second on both rings and parallel bars with 9.4.  Kameron Tang took the second place all-around spot with a 55.35 and scored a high 9.5 on rings for the win there as well; he also placed second on high bar (9.3) & pommel (9.2) and third on p.bars with another high score of 9.35.  Youngest  level 6 member, Ben Provost, scored a high 9.2 on vault and helped his team secure the Second Place Team Award.  For the Level 5 (7-9 age group), Teaanou Gonzalez had a high score on vault (9.5) for 10th place and scored a 9.25 on rings.  Nathan Florence was 10th on p.bars with 9.2 and scored 9.0 on rings.  Brandon Klein scored 9.15 on rings and 9.1 on vault, while Evan Mau posted a high 9.4 on vault and Evan Alves just under 9.0 on rings (8.9). In the senior group, Jeremy Slinsky had a 9.2 vault and won high bar with 8.6.  Great job boys! 

The Level 9 & 10 boys headed out to Oakland, CA for the 2008 Pacific Coast Classic, Feb. 22-24… and brought back medals!  In the Level 10, 14-15 division, Josh Ungar finished an impressive ninth all-around (with a 79.4) out of 50 of the best gymnasts in the country! He also had top ten placings in all individual events.  The Level 9 team took second place with Jon Deaton tying second on vault (14.05), fifth on floor, and eighth all-around; Danny DiBenedetto placed second on parallel bars and tenth all-around; Devin Clarke tied Jon on vault and placed 20th all-around out of a field of 50 gymnasts. Way to go guys!!

The girls competed at the Little Bigger Invitational at Gym & More in Woburn, MA at the end of vacation.  Level 4’s Alexis Bergamini had the highest all-around score for the Daggett gymnasts of all levels—36.250—winning 3rd place all-around in the child division. Stephanie Nai had the highest level 4 individual event score with her 9.45 on bars (eleventh highest of all 60 gymnasts in the session!)  Other gymnasts scoring over a 9.0 were Natalie Horowitz on bars (6th and 6th all-around), Alyssa Bergamini , Abby McLean, Audra Murphy and Danielle Capuano all on vault.  Kaitlyn Ravizza  also scored high on vault with an 8.7!  Everyone medaled on at least one event in a very tough meet. Congratulations!!  Level 5 Madison Perry placed 6th on bars in the youngest age group with an 8.525. Gabby McGuire placed 4th all-around in the Level 6 Intermediate group with a personal best 35.5 and also took 1st place out of all ages (65 gymnasts!) on bars with a 9.2, and seventh on vault with a 9.0.  Sarah Hogan also scored high in the all-around with a 35.3 (7th place) and took third for her high-scoring 9.2 beam routine, and fourth on bars.  Paige Alves had a 34.225 all-around and placed eighth on bars with 8.575, and Alison Renaud put up a 9.075 on vault for 5th place. Great job to all the compulsories!  The optionals also did well with Karen Tang winning the Level 10 vault (out of all age groups) with a tremendous 9.65 and getting the “Velcro Vault” award!  She also placed 4th on floor in the youngest age group with a 9.275.  Kathy Tang had a high 9.425 on vault for the third highest score of all Level 10s and she placed 5th all-around in the Child division with 35.125.  Abby Griswold won the Level 9 all-around for her session and also placed first on bars, second on floor and third on vault. Congrats to Sarah Vukalovic for doing her double-back on floor exercise -- without a spot!  Good Luck to Abby, Kathy and Karen at the Starlight Invitational this Friday, March 7th at M.I.T. in Cambridge.

 

 EXCITING NEWS:  The Tim Daggett National Invitational and Daggett Invitational were held together for the first time the weekend of February 8-10, 2008 at Mount Holyoke College’s Field House in South Hadley, MA.

The Booster Club, coaches and staff members hosted over 500 athletes from the state and surrounding region.  Congratulations competitors, coaches and parents!  Big Thanks to everyone involved!!  Here are some Highlights from the 2008 Daggett Invitational and T.D.N.I.:

 

The 2008 Daggett Invitational began Friday evening, Feb. 8th, with levels 8-10.  Level 10 Karen Tang placed first on vault scoring a phenomenal 9.6 and also won bars with a 9.32, placing second all-around.  Kathy Tang took first on floor with a high 9.45! She also placed first on beam, second on vault (9.15) and third all-around. Abby Griswold won the Level 9 floor (9.2), bars (9.1) and all-around with a 35.90!  Steph Palange placed third on floor with an 8.8 in the Level 9 senior group and Sarah “VukaVukalovic did a beautiful Level 9 floor routine “sticking” her double-back! The first place 9/10 Team award went to ….Daggett’s!   The weekend-long event continued with levels 6 & 7.  Level 6’s Gabrylle McGuire had a high 9.1 on vault placing fourth and was seventh all-around with 34.750. Sarah Hogan scored a 9.0 on beam tying for sixth place. Alison Renaud placed fourth on bars (8.675) and had a 9.05 on vault tying fifth place.  Tasha Sankalia placed sixth on vault for Level 7 with an 8.8. The level 4s, Alexis & Alyssa Bergamini, Danielle Capuano, Natalie Horowitz, Abby McLean, Audra Murphy, Stephanie Nai and Kaitlyn Ravizza won the third place team award! Alexis also placed first on vault (9.2), third on bars (8.9) and second all-around with a 34.90 in the Intermediate group. Alyssa placed second on beam (8.7) and fourth on vault (9.050) and all-around with 34.50. Audra tied first on vault with 9.2 and Danielle was second on floor with 9.150.  Stephanie placed fifth all-around in the JR group with 34.625 & Abby tied for sixth on vault with 9.05. Kaitlyn was fifth on vault with an 8.9 in the youngest age group, and Natalie tied sixth on bars with 8.85.

The boys began the T.D.N.I with levels 9 &10 on Saturday evening with Josh Ungar taking first place on floor (13.7), pommel (12.6), rings (13.3) and the all-around with a 75.3. The level 9s won the first place team award with Jon Deaton at first (75.5), Danny DiBenedetto second (72.8), and Devin Clarke third (72.6)! Jon also placed first on floor (14.0), PBars (12.7) and second on pommel, rings and third on vault. Danny was first on HBar (12.6) and second on floor (13.3), and Devin took first on vault (14.7) and third on floor (12.8). Way to go guys!  The final day of competition started strong again when the level 6s took first place team out of 9 teams! Peter Daggett won the (10-11) all-around with 54.550, floor (9.2), P Bars (9.3), and High Bar with a near perfect 9.85! WOW!  Kameron Tang won rings with a high 9.4 and was second on P Bars (9.2), H Bar (9.2) and floor (9.0).  Youngest teammate, Ben Provost tied third in the (7-9 age group) on vault (8.9) and was third on floor also (8.0). Great job boys! Level 5 highlights include Nathan Florence’s 9.45 second place vault and Teaanou Gonzalez’s 9.3 vault. Teaanou also placed fifth on floor with an 8.9, and both Evan Alves and Evan Mau scored a 9.0 on vault! 

 

The entire weekend was a success—full of fun for the athletes and pride for the parents of such hard-working kids -- every gymnast who competed was a winner! Other meet highlights…

Levels 9 & 10 traveled to Allentown, PA for the 2008 Parkette Invitational (Feb 1-3) to compete with some of the best gymnasts from clubs all over the country and did very well! Kathy Tang won first place all-around with a 35.475 in the Level 10, 13-14 age group (in the second session on Saturday); she also placed second on floor (9.1) and beam (9.05). This was her first level 10 meet also!  Karen placed third all-around in the 15-16 age group with a 35.2 and was second on floor with a 9.35.  Abby Griswold placed seventh all-around with 35.325 in a large Level 9, 12-14 age group as well as fourth on floor out of the whole session’s 55 competitors with a 9.35. Way to go girls!!

 

On January 25th, the Parkette’s 2008 Brian Babcock Invitational Junior Team Cup went to …. Daggett’s!!  Josh Ungar, Jon Deaton, Devin Clarke and Danny DiBenedetto made up the winning team.  In the Junior All-Around, Josh placed first with an 80.7 AA and High Bar (13.7), 2nd on Pommel (12.7), 2nd on Vault (15.2) and 3rd on P.Bars (13.2); Jon Deaton placed 3rd on Floor (13.8), P.Horse (12.5), 4th on Bars (13.2) and 5th AA. (77.5); Devin Clarke placed third on Vault (14.9). Congratulations Junior Cup winning team!

 In the Level 10, 14-15 AA, Josh placed 8th with an 80.4.  In the Level 9 competition, Jon Deaton won P. Bars (13.9), placed 2nd AA with a 79.00 and placed 3rd on Floor (13.4). Devin Clarke placed 3rd on Vault with a 15.2, and Danny DiBenedetto placed 5th on High Bar (12.8) and 10th AA (75.6) out of a large group of 55 competitors! For Level 8, Raleigh Venne placed 2nd (12.7) on Floor.

 

The Level 4 girls did a great job at their first meet held at Daggett’s on January 26.  Highlights include the following top 3 placings:

Abigail McLean won floor (9.0), and the all-around (34.65) and was second on vault (8.95); Alexis Bergamini  tied first on floor (9.0), and placed second on bars (8.7), all-around (34.6), and was third on vault (8.7); Stephanie Nai won bars with a 9.1 and placed third all-around (34.2); Alyssa Bergamini won vault (9.1) and was second on beam (8.6); Natalie Horowitz tied second on beam (8.6), and was third on bars (8.5); Danielle Capuano won beam with an 8.9 and tied second on floor (8.7); Audra Murphy tied second on beam (8.6); Kaitlyn Ravizza tied second on floor (8.7).

The 2007-2008 meet season started strong for the Daggett gymnasts in December. The boys’ team competed at the annual Yellow Jackets Holiday Invitational while the girls’ team began their competition season at Wilkey’s Candyland Invitational. Congratulations to Josh Ungar (Level 10), Jon Deaton (Level 9), Peter Daggett (Level 6) and Abby Griswold (Level 9) for their first place all-around wins!!  Other highlights include Teannou Gonzalez’s 3rd place 9.7 vault (Level 5), and the Level 6s 2nd Place Team finish with only 3 gymnasts: Ben Provost, Kameron Tang and Peter Daggett. Natasha Sankalia also placed 2nd all-around for Level 7;  Sarah Hogan placed 2nd on beam and 3rd all-around for Level 6.

 

Congratulations to all gymnasts on their first competition of the 2007-08 season!

 

On January 13, the levels 5 & 6 did great at Gym and More’s Local Qualifier:  Level 5’s Nathan Florence placed second in the 7-9 age group on p.bars with

a 9.2 for 2nd place, and Teannou Gonzalez placed third on rings with 8.85; Anthony Belyy placed third on vault with a 9.6 in the 10—11 group, and Jeremy Slinsky took first on vault (9.6) and floor (8.8) in the 12+ age division.  For Level 6, Ben Provost placed second on floor with an 8.6 in the youngest age group, and Peter Daggett and Kameron Tang tied for the all-around win with a 54.8 in the 10-11 age division!  Peter placed first on floor (9.3), p.bars (9.450), and high bar (9.0).  Kameron was first on rings (9.3), vault (9.4), and tied with Peter on high bar (9.0)

 

The boys continued their winning streak at the West Point Open Jan. 18-20th.  Josh Ungar placed 2nd all around (77.55), rings (13.4), and third on pommel (12.6) in the Level 10, 14-15 group; Jon Deaton won the Level 9 floor (13.9), pommel (13.0), high bar (13.2) and placed 2nd all around in the 12-13 group. Danny DiBenedetto placed 2nd on floor (13.7), high bar (13.1) and 6th all-around, while Devin Clarke placed 5th on vault (13.4). The three man team placed second!  Peter Daggett had a great  Level 6 meet scoring a high 9.7 on parallel bars winning that event as well as high bar with a 9.550, placing second all around (54.650) in the 10-11 group.

 

The girls also did well Jan. 18th & 19th at Walker’s Baystate Classic in Lowell.  Abby Griswold won the Level 9 floor exercise (9.3), placed second on vault (9.05) and third on beam for second place all around out of all age groups.  Tasha Sankalia placed third on bars (8.85) in the Level 7 Senior group; Alison Renaud placed third on vault (9.0), and Paige Alves placed second on bars (8.45) in the Level 6 Child division; Madison Perry was second on bars for the Child Level 5 age division. 

 

The girls also welcome a new team member to Level 6 – Gabrylle McGuire, all the way from Indiana! She now resides with her parents in Charlton, MA. We’re so glad you chose Daggett’s for your new gym home!

PRE SEASON ACCOMPLISMENTS:

Josh Ungar was invited to The National Training Center in Colorado  for an intensive week of training camp with only eleven other gymnasts from the country for his 17th AA placement at J.O. Nationals and Bronze medal award on High Bar.   Danny DiBenedetto and Ben Provost qualified to attend  Future Stars training clinics in October in New Hampshire.  Danny advanced to the finals to compete Nov. 9th at the U.S.  Olympic National Training Center in Colorado.  Way to Go boys!

 

Karen & Kathy Tang and Abby Griswold met the qualifying criteria to attend the level 9/10 Working Together for Nationals training clinic October 12, in Wilbraham.    2007 Eastern and National qualifiers for levels 9/10 and Level 8 Regional qualifiers over 36.5 were invited to work with regional & national staff.

June 2,2007:  The Level 4s competed at their first state championships! Congratulations girls! In the youngest age division, vault scores were high with Alyssa Bergamini at 9.075, Alexis Bergamini  at 8.8 and Hannah Valencia at 8.5.  Abigail McLean’s highest score of 8.975 was also on vault in the next age division. Madison Perry took fourth in that Intermediate age group with a 9.050 on beam, and scored 9.2 on vault and 9.150 on bars! Taylor Patrick qualified but was unable to attend. Great job to all the first-year competitors on a successful first year!

 

May 12-13:  Congratulations to the Level 5s for their awesome performances at States!  Sarah Hogan posted 9’s on 3 events. Paige Alves, Haley Harper and Alison Renaud all had excellent results also! www.massusag.com

May 11, 2007:  Kathy Tang is the Level 9 Eastern Junior B Vault (9.3) and Floor (9.4) Champion!!  Kathy placed an impressive 8th all-around (out of 48 top gymnasts) with a 36.5! results

 

May 6, 2007:  Abby Griswold took second at the Level 8 All Star Regionals with a 36.775 in the 12 yr. old age group! This was the third highest all-around score at the meet with 80 competitors of all ages.  Results

 

April News:  Congratulations to Level 7 Natasha Sankalia for her 35.225 all-around at States!  Tasha also had a high 9.325 on floor! 

Congratulations to Erin Walsh and Samantha Luke for their performances at the Level 6 States!  

 

Karen Tang is the Level 10 Regional Champion!  Karen placed first all-around in the Level 10- Junior B competition with a 37.400! She placed first on beam (9.425) and floor with a 9.725!  Karen qualified to compete at the Junior Olympic Nationals in Ohio May 18-20!

 

Kathy Tang qualified to compete at the Level 9 Eastern Nationals May 11-13 in Florida with her all-around score of 36.450 at Regionals! Kathy placed first on vault with a 9.125 and fourth on beam with a 9.125. She placed fifth in the Junior B all-around which earned her a spot on the Region Six team.

 

Congratulations to Shelly D’Aleo and Sarah Vukalovic for their performances at the Level 8 States on April 14th and on an excellent season!  Abby Griswold placed third at States on bars with a 9.225 and fifth on vault with a 9.050 finishing seventh all-around in the 12 year old division with a 35.825 and will compete at Regionals on May 6th in Rhode Island. 

 

March News:  Congratulations to both Kathy and Karen Tang who qualified at the MA State Championships March 31st to compete at the Region Six Championships!  Kathy, age 13, won vault (9.275) and floor (9.350) and tied second place on bars (9.150). She placed second in the Level 9 Intermediate “A” all-around with a 36.075.

Karen, age 14, placed second in the youngest age group for the Level 10 competition with a 37.250!  She won floor with a 9.525, placed second on bars with a 9.10, tied third on vault at 9.25, and finished fourth on beam with a 9.375.

 

Congratulations to all the boys who competed at the MA State Championships March 9-11th.  Daggett’s Level 9 team placed first! The team continued to dominate at the Region Six Championships March 24-25 where they came out on top! Paul Wood is the Level 9 State & Regional Champion! Read the press release above!

 

The optional girls competed at the Tampa Bay Turners Invitational in Palmetto, Florida, March 9-10th.  Karen Tang won first place on Floor with a 9.575 during her Level 10 competition, while Kathy Tang placed third on Floor with a 9.325 at her Level 9 meet.   Abby Griswold placed third all-around in the junior age group during the Level 8’s session with a 34.525, while Sarah Vukalovic placed fourth all-around in the senior division with 34.350.  Congratulations girls!

 

February News:

 

In February, the boys’ team traveled to New York for the 2007 Chelsea Piers Invitational where Daggett’s Level 9 team took second place! Carter Levreault placed first on floor with a 9.5!  Paul Wood and Tyler Curran tied for first on vault with an 8.2, while Danny DiBenedetto and Jony Deaton had a second place tie with an 8.7 on high bar. Sam Hayashida placed third on rings with an 8.5.

 

In the Level 7 competition, Devin Clarke placed first on high bar (8.7) and first all-around with a 52.100!

Jesse Coull placed first on rings (9.2) and pommel (8.6) and third all-around with a 51.950.  Congratulations to all gymnasts!
